From the southern or SW Caucasus, this long pile Armenian piece shows a bold and broad calyx and slanted leaf old ivory border with bitonal red/blue keyhole reciprocal minors, framing a vertically striped field in six bands in ivory, royal blue, green and soft red. All show stretched and faceted meanders. The use of border stripes, as here, in the field is a long-standing carpet design trope, and can be seen on pieces ranging from the most primitive and rustic to the most finely woven and urban. All wool construction, medium-coarse symmetric knots. Longish pile. Good condition..
