Vintage Caucasian Kazak Rug 5'4'' x 8'4''
Although called in the trade “Eagle Kazak'', this is really a Chelaberd Karabagh from the southern Caucasus, probably Armenia, made during an early Soviet 5-Year Plan. The nearly brick red field displays two “Eagle'' medallions in ecru and navy, with stars between, and set within a doubly connected X-pattern ivory main border. Thick pile, medium-coarse weave in symmetric knots, wool foundation. Good condition.
