Of superior Serapi weave quality, this NW Persian village rug shows a somewhat informal version of the universally popular Herati design, closely covering the dark indigo ground. Although the Herati pattern is not rare in Heriz-area weaving, this is a well-balanced and executed example. The soft rust-red border features Heriz-style reversing turtle motives, rosettes, and bent fish leaves. Natural dye palette. Good condition.
