DESCRIPTION

Usually English or French, often with repeating allover designs executed with wool cross-stitches. Larger carpets are workshop productions, smaller pieces have a single artisan author. Flat-weave texture, without elevated pile. Best are 19th century although recent  examples are frequent. Patterns of bouquets, single flowers, domestic animals and plants.
