Antique Farahan Sarouk Rug 4'2'' x 6'7''
This c. 1900 finely woven scatter from a village context in western Persia features a deep indigo navy ground with a delicate, but vigorous arabesquerie overlaying a small rosette and flower design. The use of forked arabesques is an ancient carpet and textile trope. The red madder border shows vinery and well-spaced. No knot-for-knot cartoons were used in the creation of this good condition. An urban style from an accomplished rustic workshop.
